Thousands of people enjoyed the Saturday night of a natural phenomenon known as the "Super Moon."
According to the expert, this is an interesting optical phenomenon.
"The last full moon that was so big and so close to Earth was in March 1993," said Geoff Chester, an expert from the U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO, for its acronym in English), according to the page NASA's Internet.
The full moon varies in size because of the oval is its orbit. Closer
in its elliptical orbit, called perigee is 50,000 km closer to Earth than the other, called apogee.
According to experts, the perigee is the closest approach of the Moon to Earth.
"The Moon at perigee is seen beside about 14% larger and 30% brighter than when viewed in the side peak of its orbit," he said in the article NASA Dr. Tony Phillips.
The perigee full moon could cause the so-called perigee tides, representing an increase of a few centimeters in height tides.
But that closeness is an illusion, because the next perigee of the Moon is about 356,577 miles from Earth.
"The average distance of the moon compared to Earth is 384,000 kilometers," said Gomez.
There, experts say, lies the beauty.
